Apenas com esta informação, simpatizamos com o senhor AH quase de imediato. Porém, tudo se esfuma se eu lhe disser que AH é Adolf Hitler. Ao ajuizarmos a vida e o legado de Hitler, a sua forma de tratar o animal passa a ser perfeitamente irrelevante. É irritante e até ofensivo se nos detivermos por mais um segundo nessa sua característica. Temos de nos focar no essencial. No entanto, caímos com frequência nestas distracções assessórias. O que de mais relevante resultou do pensamento de Karl Marx foi a inspiração política utópica de regimes comunistas responsáveis pela morte de milhões de pessoas. O pensamento de Carl Schmitt foi útil na sustentação intelectual do regime nazi em que participou sem arrependimento, mesmo depois do seu partido ser responsável pelo Holocausto, pelo Porajmos e por tantas outras atrocidades. Neither to me. However, the new Portuguese party named “Chega!” claims to be conservative. Founded in 2019 by André Ventura, Chega won 7% of the votes in the last legislative elections and became the third largest party in Parliament. Since then, the international media have taken for granted that Chega is a conservative party. I would like to dispute that idea and make a broader reflection about the conservative brand. I am writing this article in rural Portugal, in a town where the Chega party currently is leading the opposition against the Socialist party.
